Biological Engineer. Writer. Aspiring Entrepreneur.

Welcome! I’m Tejashree, a final year undergraduate studying Biological Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Madras, specializing in Computational Biology and pursuing a minor in English Literature. Professionally, I have experience in computational biology research, sustainability, content and creative writing, and public policy, through initiatives in college and elsewhere.

Recently, I’ve been a delegate for the ASES Summit held at Stanford, where I got to learn about entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley, and pitch to a panel of prominent Bay Area Venture Capitalists. Through the Policy in Action Program of Young Leaders for Active Citizenship (YLAC), I had exposure to public policy and development, and worked on a project for Derek O’Brien, a prominent Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.

Currently I’m working on creating sustainable hygiene products for young women, to prevent them from dropping out of higher education due to a lack of adequate washroom facilities. This is something I was drawn to after volunteering to tutor young children from an orphanage-run school, where I got to understand first-hand the problems plaguing secondary school education in my country. I was also awarded the UN Millennium Fellowship to further develop the project. I am also a member of the Basal Ganglia Team of the Computational Neuroscience Lab at IIT Madras, where I work on modelling the Substantia Nigra pars compacta (SNc) subsystem to simulate Parkinson’s Disease (PD) symptoms.

I’ve had extensive experience as a leader, from being the first Head Girl of my school when I was just 13, to my current role as the Community Manager of India Biotech Leaders of Tomorrow (IBLoT), a non-profit initiative aiming to foster a community of biotech leaders to accelerate the growth of the Indian bioeconomy. I’ve also been the Publicity Strategist of Shaastra, the annual science & technology festival of IIT Madras, where I spearheaded a team that conducted press conferences and published over 100 articles in leading Indian newspapers, and got exceptional coverage on television news channels.

In addition to my academic and professional interests, I’m also an avid creative. My poems and short stories have been published in literary journals and magazines from across the world. I’m an award-winning orator and performance poet, and one of the plays I’ve acted in has received national media recognition. I’ve been studying art for over 9 years, and my pieces have been featured in numerous magazines.

In short, I would be a great asset to have on your team. I’m always on the lookout for exciting opportunities in business and product strategizing, entrepreneurship, writing, consulting, and advocacy. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you’d like to learn more about my work or collaborate.
